The 4 Haircare Must Dos BEFORE Your Wedding

For many women, weddings are something we have been dreaming about ever since we were little girls. It’s one of those things we all want but when we get it, we are overwhelmed with just how much preparation goes into that special day! Not to mention that our lives become hectic, and a hectic life is a recipe for hair disaster! So, in order for your special day to be perfect, let’s have a look at some tips to take good care of your hair pre-wedding!

1. Manage Your Stress

It’s certainly no easy task for a bride to just chill out, but it’s an important thing to take into consideration. Your hair reacts badly to stress: your body starts producing more and more cortisol, the more stressed you are. And one of the most common side effects of having too much cortisol in your system is hair loss. Keep in mind that the hair that grows back after a stressful period is usually thinner and weaker too, so managing stress is of key importance. As we always say, hair care starts on the inside, a healthy mind and a healthy body combined will give you the best hair you can dream of! So, try your best to keep calm and manage your stress by letting others help with preparations and doing simple, relaxing things you enjoy, just to unwind at the end of the day!

2. Eat Well

Most brides tend to go on a drastic diet to look their best for the wedding, but keep in mind that what you put in your body, matters a lot in the long run! If you force yourself to eat poorly over the span of a couple of months, your hair, skin and even nails can suffer! We’re not saying that all diets are bad, but you need to make sure that your food intake is adequate. Don’t just start a diet where you only have water and lemon droplets for breakfast and air for dinner! Your body needs nutrients, and so does your hair to look nice and shiny! If your hair is protein deficient, it becomes dry, weak and frizzy, you start to get more and more split ends, and that’s not a good look! So, if you’d like to, make sure you pursue a weight loss journey that is safe and healthy for you. Don’t exclude proteins and the good fats that work wonders for your body! For shinier hair, focus on foods with vitamin B in them, such as eggs, nuts and fish! While you’re at it, include a lot of salmon in your diet: salmon contains a lot of omega-3 fatty acids, which are a blessing for your hair! They help strengthen the hair and reduce breakage and damage in your strands. Keep in mind that most vitamins and dietary supplements need time to kick in, so it’s best to start early! The above-mentioned products and foods are good for you on any given day, not just before the Big Day!

3. Hydrate and Nourish Your Strands

Sometimes staying chill is just not easy, it’s hard to relax when there’s so much on your mind! We all want our special day to be perfect to its smallest detail, so worrying and stressing over invitations and seating charts might end up frizzing up your hair. Fear not! There are many ways to help your hair out: from the inside, just by drinking a lot of water! If you’re hydrated, your hair will feel it, you can expect faster hair growth and stronger hair! And, if that’s not enough, there are many external treatments you can try. Try a weekly deep conditioning treatment or hair mask! They hydrate, nourish and moisturize your hair and strengthen it in the process, helping you achieve the gorgeous hair you’ve always dreamed of! These hair masks are great at repairing damage whether it is a bad dye job or damaged, textured hair, so it’s definitely a good idea to invest in one! If you want soft, shiny hair, try some moisturizing hair oils such as avocado, olive or jojoba! These oils will not only moisturize and strengthen your hair, they will also soften it so you can achieve those perfect wedding locks easily!

Style, Color and Trim with Caution

Most brides have some idea about what hairstyle they would like to have on their big day, and we certainly see countless miraculous updos all over social media. But is that a good fit for you? Will you enjoy it once it’s arranged on your head?

We recommend you try the hairstyles before you commit to one, just to be sure that you’re happy with the idea you had. Set up a few appointments before the wedding day so you and your stylist can work out a hairstyle that you prefer and that also looks nice on you! It will save you a lot of stress and you will avoid unpleasant surprises! Are you planning to color your hair a very different color for your wedding? Keep in mind that stylists can only work with what you’ve got! If you go in any salon with jet black hair and want to reach platinum blonde, you need to be aware of the fact that it will cost you a lot, it will take a long time and it will likely damage your hair in the process. We’d advise you against huge hair changes before your wedding day!

A good hairdresser can lift your color a couple levels without damaging your hair, but you can’t go from a level 1 jet black to a level 10 platinum in a couple weeks! If your wedding is scheduled a year in advance, then go for it!

But if there’ not that much time, skip the color change or you might end up with a coppery mess you did not want! If you would like to have a big, complicated updo and you just don’t have enough hair to accomplish that dream bun, invest in high quality, ethically sourced hair extensions! While these clip-ins and weaves may damage your natural hair if you wear them long-term, for such a special day, they could do wonders to your hair!

Hair extensions can be colour-matched and they’ll save you a lot of grief about your hairstyle and length! If you want your locks to be naturally long, most stylists will recommend that you trim the ends of your hair. Listen to them, even if it’s difficult to accept that trimming your hair will give you longer hair, it is true! If you get rid of the split and damaged ends of your hair, you’ll grow your hair faster!

Weddings are stressful even if you are not the bride, but when all eyes are on you, it can become a hellish experience way too easily. Don’t let that happen to your special day! Our most important tip that many of us should live by is: try to have a positive attitude! If you keep your cool and don’t turn into a Bridezilla, you’ll face any challenge with a more level-headed perspective, not to mention that your hair will thank you too! Give your hair the attention it deserves and it will reward you on your big day!
